Aftobi vs. Abdjush : Two traditions, One Excellence

Though they share the same grape origin and nutritional benefits, Aftobi and Abdjush Sultana raisins are differentiated by their drying process and treatment, which affect their color, flavor profile, and suitability for different markets.

Aftobi Sultanas are naturally sun-dried, with no sulfur dioxide (SO₂) treatment. Their color ranges from medium to dark brown, and their flavor is slightly more intense, with earthy and caramelized notes that result from the slow exposure to direct sunlight. This process preserves the natural integrity of the grape, yielding a rustic, clean-label product appreciated by consumers who favor minimal processing and maximum authenticity.

Abdjush Sultanas, by contrast, are subjected to a light sulfur dioxide treatment during the drying stage. This helps stabilize their color—typically lighter brown to amber—and enhances their shelf life by reducing microbial activity.
